Project Management

Daily business requires the ability to work independently, prioritize and balance out each decision. There are fantastic support tools – I personally prefer an open-source tool called Trello which I use for both professional and private purposes.

(enhanced) ePub

Although ePub 3 is supposed to provide the eBook standard with astonishing interactive elements, not many platforms support them at the moment. In fact, iBooks is still the platform that comes closest to the IDPF standard.

HTML & CSS

There are amazing tools to create beautifully enhanced eBooks in ePub format … but doing it from scratch is a great way, too. For instance, one may export the file out of Adobe InDesign and edit the resulting well-prepared ePub file via Sigil.

 Layout & Design

Since the beginning of my professional career, I appreciated a decent layout. Adobe InDesign is my favorite software – especially now that the interface is customizable. And Adobe XD is a great editor for wireframes.

Animation

When it comes to animations, which software to choose depends on the output channel. Technologies and requirements change quickly, though. E.g. for the Tigerbooks workflow, Adobe Flash used to be the best choice and got replaced later on.

Artwork

In my eyes, it is very important to pay attention to the details. The way colors and shapes are being combined perfectly in relation to the actual content gives me a lot to ponder on, preferably in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
